Don Janes and Murray Williamson offer years of commercial real estate lending experience both in production and credit. Don Janes

Don Janes began his commercial real estate career in 1988 as a partner in a Halifax N.S. based consulting group.  After earning a B.A. and M.B.A.  from Dalhousie University, he spent a year as a business consultant for a university in Australia.

Upon returning to Canada, Mr. Janes was a consultant to CMHC in Victoria, B.C.  In 1991, he joined a Vancouver based commercial real estate consulting firm advising clients throughout Western Canada.   Don started a position in 1993 as an Asset Manager and VP – Commercial Real Estate Finance for a private equity firm based in Vancouver.

Mr. Janes’ most recent position was Director – Commercial Mortgages for Vancity Savings Credit Union / Citizens Bank responsible for sourcing, underwriting and approving commercial real estate loans of over $1 billion in B.C., Alberta and Ontario.  As Director, he was the senior relationship person for the production team and was involved with managing the commercial real estate loan portfolio as well as negotiating and structuring complex term and construction loan transactions.

Throughout his 30+ year career, Don has developed a wealth of knowledge and experience in all facets of commercial real estate in Ontario and Western Canada.

Murray Williamson

Murray Williamson began his banking career in 1986 with Bank of Montreal (Vancouver) financing middle-market companies and commercial real estate. After graduation from the Bank’s Management
Development Program, Murray was promoted to Toronto to manage a portfolio of corporate banking and real estate clients and soon later (early 90’s), was enticed to join Scotiabank in Toronto, Corporate
Credit, Europe & Japan where he assessed and recommended corporate credit with a particular emphasis on the global shipping industry.

Soon after returning to Vancouver with Scotiabank (Commercial & Real Estate Credit) in the mid-90’s, Murray accepted a role as Senior Portfolio Manager at Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML), Global Corporate & Investment Banking and later in his career rejoined BAML’s Global Commercial Banking Group, as Senior VP, British Columbia, leaving the Bank in 2018. Murray’s primary responsibility during this time was leading debt capital markets origination and assisting in credit/derivatives underwriting for both corporate and commercial real estate clients in Canada where he assist led billion-dollar financings mostly in support of M&A activity by some of BC’s largest corporations.

Between roles at Bank of America, Murray also spent time at Vancity (Citizens Bank of Canada) as VP, Commercial Mortgages (Ontario Region) and then CBRE Limited, Managing Broker (Debt & Structured Finance, Western Canada). These roles required extensive team building and collaboration with commercial real estate credit adjudicators across banks and credit unions, working with regulators
and developing processes/templates for credit risk identification and mitigation.

Murray is a licensed Mortgage Broker with the BCFSA (British Columbia Financial Services Authority) with a B.A. and M.B.A. His extensive experience and training in banking as a lender and broker have resulted in mentoring and training commercial real estate lenders and credit adjudicators, plus providing advisory services to banks and credit unions on commercial credit underwriting across Canada.
